Learn to Lead is presented by UNSW Alumni & Engagement in collaboration with AGSM @ UNSW Business School. It was designed exclusively for the global alumni community as an opportunity to expand their leadership knowledge and skills from anywhere in the world. UNSW Alumni & Engagement needed a solution that would enable them to connect with their alumni to enrich their lifelong learning experiences and to be part of an engaged global alumni community.
Two of the key challenges for UNSW Alumni & Engagement are:
- Connecting with their alumni to be part of an enriching and sustaining community that stretches right around the world
- Continuing the relationship and engaging with their alumni after their undergraduate or postgraduate studies with UNSW
Furthermore, the post-COVID world demands enhanced leadership skills. Leaders need to be comfortable not just with persistently higher levels of ambiguity and uncertainty (neither of which is anything new), but with interdependencies on a grand scale. The reality is that we’re now living in a more multipolar world than we were a year ago.
In response, UNSW Alumni & Engagement partnered with OpenLearning to develop a short course, 6 - 10 hours in duration over the course of two weeks, focusing on the topic of leadership. UNSW invited its alumni to join a complimentary short course, which was delivered 100% online with flexible deadlines, enabling learners to learn at their own pace and around their own schedule, understanding that majority of learners would be busy adult learners with full time jobs.
Learners who completed the course received a certificate in the form of a UNSW certified digital badge.
Learn to Lead featured a combination of webinars, lectures, interactive Q&A sessions and self-paced learning. Furthermore, the short course is facilitated by a mix of renowned leadership experts including UNSW academics and alumni. The course focused on four key areas: leadership and performance, decision making, design thinking, and adaptive leadership.
To date, the results for UNSW have been phenomenal. The positive feedback has been overwhelming, with participants stating, “there could not have been a better time for this opportunity to arise” and “I’m looking forward to some respite from COVID-19 surrounds and enhancing my leadership skill.”
UNSW’s overwhelmingly popular online short course for alumni, Learn to Lead, has exceeded all expectations - enhancing the leadership skills of 4,200 global community members and receiving an overall rating by participants of 8.83/10. Encouragingly, 80% of attendees can’t wait to sign up for the next UNSW short course.
